Paul McCartney To Perform Shakespeare In Santa Monica

The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ annual Simply Shakespeare benefit event features the former Beatle and other celebrities.

For Beatles fans, maybe even Wings, the chance to witness Paul McCartney perform Shakespeare seems too good to be true. For $1,500, this could be a reality. The Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles’ 23rd annual Simply Shakespeare benefit is set for Sept. 25 at Santa Monica’s Broad Stage.
The SCLA announced the event today that also has William Shatner, Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks on the bill. The cast will read The Two Gentlemen of Verona with proceeds from the event benefitting inner-city youth programs and arts education in local schools. It will also benefit the SCLA’s partnership with the West Los Angeles Veterans Medical Center, which hosts Shakespearean plays in the Japanese Garden located on the grounds. The partnership provides employment for veterans by giving them a chance to perform and work with the crew.

“We are thrilled for their involvement in our annual Simply Shakespeare production,” said SCLA Artistic Director Ben Donenberg in a press release.  “And providing the opportunity to showcase SCLA’s work and raise funds to support our life-changing programs for at-risk youth and veterans in our communities.”
