Smoke Visible to Diamond Bar and Walnut Residents from Angeles National Forest Blaze




Smoke wafting across the valley visible to Diamond Bar and Walnut residents is from a blaze burning in the Angeles National Forest.
The fire began above Azusa has burned north into the forest and was growing tonight.
The fire started at 5:56 p.m. and county firefighters fought the blaze with SuperScoopers, helicopters and ground forces. As of 9 p.m., about 50 acres had burned and the fire appeared to be growing, although slowly, said Angel Lavell of the Angeles National Forest.
The U.S. Forest Service took over firefighting duties.
One helicopter and about 150 firefighters were on scene. The fire was mostly burning in Fish Canyon near Van Tassel Ridge, she said.
For a while, some homes were threatened, but that appeared to have been a passing problem.
