Students and staff will perform on Cal Poly Pomona’s famed Arabians on Sunday as they celebrate university’s 75th anniversary with its first horse show of the fall.
W.K. Kellogg, who created Corn Flakes and the Kellogg Company, started the horse show tradition in 1926 on his ranch property, which later became Cal Poly Pomona. The purpose was to promote interest in the Arabian breed and educate the horse-loving public about the versatility, beauty and intelligence of these horses.
Cal Poly Pomona has continued that tradition. The 38-acre horse center houses about 150 purebred Arabians used in teaching, research and breeding. The Arabians have also appeared in competitions and the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. The center produces 10 to 15 foals per year and offers horses for sale to the general public.

Self-guided tours of the center run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Simultaneously, tours will be available at the W.K. Kellogg Horse Library. Author Mary Jane Parkinson will be available to sign copies of her book, “The Romance of the Kellogg Ranch.”
A presentation of the breeding stock and offspring will be held before the 2 p.m. start of the traditional Sunday Show.
