49th Auto Club NHRA Finals
Location: FairplexCLICK HERE FOR EVENT TICKETS
The season concludes where it began with an event traditionally laced with drama. The historic racetrack typically enjoys seasonably cool temperatures that translate into perfect racing conditions and a spectacular, no-holds-barred battle for the prestigious NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series world championships. It’s a good bet that the Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle world titles will still be in doubt at the beginning of the season’s final day.
2012 Recap: Antron Brown (Top Fuel) and Jack Beckman (Funny Car) raced to their first NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series world championships. Brown suffered a heartbreaking loss in the opening round and had to wait until Brandon Bernstein upset Tony Schumacher in a thrilling final round to be crowned the champion. Beckman learned his fate one round earlier when Ron Capps lost in front of him in the semifinal round. Cruz Pedregon won the Funny Car title and, like Bernstein, became the 10th different winner in his category in 2012. Allen Johnson (Pro Stock) clinched the title by qualifying and earned his seventh win of the year. Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also clinched during qualifying and later lost in the final round to teammate Andrew Hines.
