It's a brand new year!
2013 is gone and 2014 has just begun and Pomona Heritage is ready with an exciting lineup of programs just for you.
JANUARY 16 5:00 pm: Annual Meeting Each year Pomona Heritage has an annual meeting of the membership to elect new members to the board of directors. Directors serve a 2 year term and approximately half of the positions are up for election. Come and support your choices for director. There will be a brief directors meeting at the end of this election. Also at the meeting will be a presentation by Jeved Management on the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Pomona Packing Plant. Built in 1916, this facility that once processed stone fruit (peaches, nectarines, etc.) under the Pomona brand name. Under the ownership of the Tessier family, the facility today has been transformed into artists spaces, ensuring another chapter in the nearly 100 year history of this iconic building.
JANUARY 25: Field Trip to Mission Inn in Riverside
Join us as we venture down to the historic Mission Inn in Riverside for a tour which will also include the historic Fox Riverside Theater.
Grand archways and flying buttresses lead to secluded outdoor gardens and patios, while the iconic domes and towers of the Inn soar high above exquisite wrought-iron staircases. The site of countless weddings, including ceremonies for Bette Davis and Richard and Pat Nixon, the Inn offers dozens of overwhelmingly inspirational settings, including the region's only hotel chapel - the exquisite St. Francis of Assisi.
The Inn is located in the heart of the historic downtown Riverside district bustling with boutique shops, art galleries and is a National Register historic building. Fox's Riverside Theater opened in 1929 as a cinema/vaudeville theater house. It was built with a Spanish Colonial Revival style and attracted well-known performers including Bing Crosby and Judy Garland. In 2007, the City began a major historical restoration of the Fox with the goal of making it the centerpiece of a downtown arts and culture scene. The historic structure has been reinvented as a state-of-the-art performing arts theater for Riverside and the Inland Empire. The Fox Performing Arts Center re-opened in January 2010 with a weekend of two shows by the inimitable Sheryl Crow.
