82-Year-Old Women Killed in Pomona Crash IDed

An 82-year-old woman killed in a two-vehicle collision in Pomona was identified today by police.
Julia Almeyda was a front-seat passenger in a 2010 Kia Soul that was making a left turn from Towne Avenue to westbound Foothill Boulevard when it collided with a 1998 Ford Econoline van headed south on Towne about 12:40 p.m. Sunday, the Pomona Police Department reported.
Pomona police Sgt. Christian Hsu said the Kia driver's license had been suspended since 2000 because of a DUI conviction, but alcohol is not suspected to have been involved in Sunday's crash.
Almeyda died after being taken to Pomona Valley Hospital, police said. The Kia driver, identified by police as the dead woman's husband, suffered minor injuries and was airlifted from the scene. His name was not released.
The driver of the van was not injured, Hsu said.
Police closed the intersection to accommodate the crash investigation.
Anyone with information about the collision was urged to contact the Pomona Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team at (909) 620-2081.
