                NATIONAL ICE CREAM SANDWICH DAY

Celebrated each year on August 2, it is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day.  This food holiday is one that will refresh each one of us, across the United States, on a warm summer day with a delicious frozen ice cream sandwich.
The modern version of the ice cream sandwich was invented by Jerry Newberg in 1945 when he was selling ice cream at Forbes Field.   There are pictures from the early 1900′s, “On the  beach, Atlantic City”, that show Ice Cream Sandwiches were popular and sold for 1 cent each.
There are alternatives to the classic ice cream sandwich using chocolate cookies, oatmeal cookies or a rice crispy wafer in place of the original chocolate one.
Ice cream sandwiches are known around the world with different names,
such as:

NATIONAL MUSTARD DAY

National Mustard Day is annually celebrated on the first Saturday in August.
Mustard is a condiment made from the seeds of a mustard plant (white or yellow mustard, Sinapis hirta; brown or Indian mustard, Brassica juncea; or black mustard, B. nigra). The whole, ground, cracked, or bruised mustard seeds are mixed with water, salt, lemon juice, or other liquids, and sometimes other flavorings and spices, to create a paste or sauce ranging in color from bright yellow to dark brown.
Commonly paired with meats and cheeses, mustard is a popular addition to sandwiches, salads, hamburgers, and hot dogs. It is also used as an ingredient in many dressings, glazes, sauces, soups, and marinades; as a cream or a seed, mustard is used in the cuisine of India, the Mediterranean, northern and southeastern Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Africa,[1] making it one of the most popular and widely used spices and condiments in the world.
National Mustard Day is celebrated annually at the National Mustard Museum on the first Saturday in August. It is a fun-filled day for the whole family and has traditionally included FREE hot dogs as well as music, games, other entertainment, FREE mustard sampling, and more. The Mustard Museum has been the official sponsor of this event since 1991.
In 2010, the event was moved to the current home of the Museum in Downtown Middleton, Wisconsin. With more than 6,000 enthusiastic mustard lovers in attendance annually, this event has raised thousands of dollars for local charity.

MEAD DAY

To increase mead awareness and foster camaraderie among meadmakers.Homebrewers and mead makers around the world, Mead Day was created by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 2002.
Sometimes called “honey-wine”, mead is an alcoholic beverage that is made by fermenting honey with water.  Often times fruits, spices, grains or hops are added in the making of this, loved by many, drink.

Mead has been known to be called the “ancestor of all fermented drinks.”
