SEPTEMBER 1, 2014 – LABOR DAY – NATIONAL CHICKEN BOY’S DAY – NATIONAL NO RHYME (NOR REASON) DAY

happy-labor-day

It’s Monday!  Monday’s are most people’s least favorite day of the week, so what better way to spend it than to have some time off of work and spend it with family and friends! Today we celebrate Labor Day.  We add an extra day to our weekend to celebrate the labor movement, which gave to us better working conditions and fair treatment from our employers and the government.
Originally on September 5, Labor Day was first celebrated in New York City in 1882.  In 1884 the celebration date was moved to the first Monday of September.
Labor Day started as a state holiday by being voted in by individual states but soon gained popularity and was voted a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.
This end of the summer holiday is often spent as a vacation weekend by many families filling up most campgrounds across the nation.  There are many people that see Labor Day as a holiday to spend family time together before the beginning of the new school year.
As you celebrate this day, consider and appreciate the hard work of millions of people and how it has added to the well-being and prosperity of our country.

Happy Labor Day!

NATIONAL CHICKEN BOY’S DAY

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHICKEN BOY!  Each year on September 1, thousands of people across the United States celebrate National Chicken Boy’s Day in honor of his  September 1 ceremonial birthday.
A roadside icon which is often referred to as the “Statue of Liberty of Los Angeles, California”, Chicken Boy is a statue of a boy, with a chicken head, holding a bucket of chicken.   Standing 22 ft. tall, he was named after the former 1960′s restaurant that shared his name.
The iconic statue remained in place at the restaurant until the owner died in 1984.  At that time, Chicken Boy was given to Los Angeles art director, Amy Inouye and it was placed in storage until a suitable location could be found.  Some twenty years later, Chicken Boy was moved to his new home at Inouye’s design firm.  The result of the restoration of Chicken Boy was a community effort and donated funds.
A famous landmark on the historic U.S. Route 66, Chicken Boy was recognized by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger with the Governor’r Historic Preservation Award in 2010.

NATIONAL NO RHYME (NOR REASON) DAY

September is filled with many reasons to celebrate and some of the celebrations have “no rhyme or reason”.
Actually, National No Rhyme (Nor Reason) Day, which is annually celebrated on September 1, is celebrating words, in the English language, which do not rhyme with any other words.   These are words that poets try to avoid using at the end of a sentence.
For example, they are words such as:
  • Orange
  • Month
***************************************
We hope that in each and every way,
You have yourself a very good day.
And if today you are writing a poem,
Once your mind begins to roam,
Do not take any extra time
Trying to use words that will not rhyme.
