                                              NATIONAL CHERRIES JUBILEE DAY

A special food holiday is celebrated every year on September 24 – National Cherries Jubilee Day.  Cherry lovers everywhere are smitten with this easy to make, delicious dessert and it is a favorite for many special occasions.
Cherries are mixed together with liqueur (typically Kirschwasser) and then flambeed.  Very commonly the Cherries Jubilee is served as a sauce over vanilla ice cream.
Auguste Escoffier receives the credit for the Cherries Jubilee recipe.  He prepared the dish for one of Queen Victoria’s Jubilee celebration.  It remains unclear if it was the Golden Jubilee of 1887 or the Diamond Jubilee of 1897.
