Woman mistakes rare truffle for free sample at Washington, D.C. restaurant

 

 

A woman made a very expensive mistake at a Washington, DC restaurant. She thought she was trying a free sample, but it turns out it was a rare, expensive white truffle.

The truffle was one of several placed under a glass dome at the restaurant Equinox.

Thinking it was a sample, she took a bite and put the rest on her bread plate.

The restaurant owner had to throw the rest out. He says the bite was worth about $300.
