UPDATED: Teen, Mother Arrested in Connection With Missing Girl
The 38-year-old mother of a 17-year-old was arrested with her son for allegedly hiding a 13-year-old girl for nearly two weeks.
Wilma Brooks, of Pomona was taken into custody Thursday, April 30, along with her son, Pomona police said.
Katherine Vance ran away April 18 and was reported missing; she had previously run away and been found at her boyfriend’s home.
After several interviews of the victim’s friends and family, and after subsequent re-interviews, detectives were led to a home in the 1000 block of East Grand Avenue. During a search of that home, the victim was located hiding underneath the bed of her 17 year old boyfriend, police said.
Based upon information received throughout the course of their investigation, detectives arrested the 17 year old male, along with his mother, for allegedly concealing a child from the parents, police said.
The boy was taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall and suspect Brooks is being held in the Pomona Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
The 13-year-old was unharmed and based on the circumstances, was taken into protective custody by the Department of Children Services, pending an investigation.

Investigators from the Pomona Police Department on Thursday received information that led them to the home of a missing 13-year-old girl’s boyfriend.
On April 5, Katherine was reported missing and was found the next day with her 17-year-old boyfriend; On April 18, Katherine ran away again and Thursday was found hiding inside of the boyfriend’s home.
She was safely taken to the police station pending further investigation. Katherine’s 17-year-old boyfriend was arrested and detectives are preparing charges regarding his involvement, officials said.
