National Kiss and Make Up Day - August 25

NATIONAL KISS AND MAKE UP DAY

Today is a good day to end the quarrels, the arguments, the fights and make up with those whom you are distanced from because of it.  National Kiss and Make Up Day is observed annually on August 25th.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT!
Similar to April 2nd National Reconciliation Day, today gives us a chance to make amends.  Each one of us has had a fight with a loved one at some point in our lives.  It may be a spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, partner, parent, child, sibling, best friend or etc. and often times, as time goes on, we do not even remember what started the fight.  Was it your fault?  Was it their fault? Was it really anyone’s fault?  Do you really want the discord to go on any longer?  That is probably the most important question of all.

NATIONAL WHISKEY SOUR DAY

Each year on August 25, people across the United States celebrate National Whiskey Sour Day.
Traditionally garnished with half an orange and a maraschino cherry, a whiskey sour is a mixed drink containing whiskey (often Bourbon), lemon juice and sugar.  Whiskey sours are shaken then either served straight or over ice.
An option to the traditional whiskey sour is the Boston sour which is made by adding a dash of egg white to the recipe.  Another variant is the Ward 8.  The Ward 8 is based with either Bourbon or rye whiskey with both lemon and orange juices added along with grenadine syrup for the sweetener.
The Whiskey Sour has withstood the test of time!
The first mention of a whiskey sour was in an 1870 Wisconsin newspaper.
  • After opening,  a bottle of whiskey will remain good for five years.
  • An unopened bottle of whiskey can be kept for over 100 years and will still be fit to drink.

NATIONAL BANANA SPLIT DAY

National Banana Split Day is celebrated annually on August 25th!
Classically served in a long dish, called a boat, a banana is cut in half lengthwise and laid in the dish with scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream placed in between.  The strawberry ice cream is complimented with pineapple topping, chocolate syrup is poured on the vanilla ice cream and strawberry topping covers the chocolate ice cream.  Crushed nuts, whipped cream and maraschino cherries garnish the entire boat.
Today, there are many variations to the classic banana split.
The banana split was invented by a 23-year-old apprentice pharmacist in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1904.  David Evans Strickler enjoyed inventing sundaes at the store’s soda fountain.  The first “banana-based triple ice cream sundae”  sold for 10 cents which was double the cost of all other sundaes.

NATIONAL SECONDHAND WARDROBE DAY

There is nobody who does not like to save money and today is a good day to do just that.  National Secondhand Wardrobe Day is celebrated each year across the United States on August 25.
The practicality and thriftiness of second-hand shopping in today’s economy, it’s earth-saving benefits as well as donating some of your own slightly worn clothing is what National Secondhand Wardrobe Day is all about.
Freeing up some of your closet space and donating some of your rarely worn clothes will benefit you with extra space.  Donating your clothing will be helping someone else who is a secondhand store shopper.  Your donation will be a blessing to them as well as to the charity that runs the store.
This above scenario is the recycling, reusing, re-purposing cycle that we are trying to teach the next generation.
