No charges for Caitlyn Jenner in fatal car crash in Malibu

Prosecutors declined to charge Caitlyn Jenner on Wednesday in a California car crash that led to the death of another driver, saying there was not enough evidence for a conviction.

Authorities said Jenner was towing an off-road vehicle on a trailer behind a Cadillac Escalade on Feb. 7 when she crashed into two cars, pushing one into oncoming traffic. Driver Kim Howe was killed when her Lexus was hit by a Hummer.

"We believed from the start that a thorough and objective investigation would clear Caitlyn of any criminal wrongdoing," said Blair Berk, Jenner's attorney. "We are heartened the district attorney has agreed that even a misdemeanor charge would be inappropriate. A traffic accident, however devastating and heartbreaking when a life is lost, is not necessarily a criminal matter."

The accident occurred before Jenner announced she is transgender and transitioned into her new identity as Caitlyn.

Sheriff's investigators previously determined that Jenner, 65, was traveling at an unsafe speed for the road conditions at the time and there was enough evidence to support a vehicular manslaughter charge. The case was then referred to the district attorney's major crimes division.

After the accident, Jenner released a statement expressing sympathy to everyone involved in the accident.

"It is a devastating tragedy," the statement read. "I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them."

Jenner is facing separate lawsuits by Howe's stepchildren and the driver of the other car involved in the collision. Jenner's lawyers are fighting efforts to have her give sworn testimony in a deposition in the wrongful death suit filed by the stepchildren.

The crash has shadowed Jenner's much-lauded transgender transition that was announced in a two-hour television special with Diane Sawyer. A Vanity Fair cover story revealed her new identity, and a reality series "I Am Cait" chronicled her new life.

In July, Jenner accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs sports achievement event and urged fellow athletes to join her and make advocacy for transgender issues a priority.

A Los Angeles judge approved Jenner's petition to formally change her name and gender on Sept. 25. Jenner was born Bruce Jenner and won an Olympic gold medal for the decathlon in 1976.

Jenner was married to Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner for more than 20 years and frequently appeared on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." The couple had two children together, and Jenner has four children from previous marriages.

National Chewing Gum Day - September 30

                                     NATIONAL CHEWING GUM DAY

National Chewing Gum Day is observed annually on September 30.
Humans have used chewing gum for over 5,000 years.
Various forms of chewing gum have existed since the Neolithic period.  5,000-year-old chewing gum which was made from bark tar with tooth imprints in it, was found in Kierikki, Yli-li, Finland.  The bark tar, from which the gum during that time was made, was believed to have antiseptic properties and other medicinal advantages.
  • Many other cultures chewed gum made from the resin of the mastic tree, from plants, grasses and other resins.
  • In 1848, John B. Curtis developed and sold the first commercial chewing gum which was called “The State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum”.
  • Around 1850, a gum made from paraffin wax was developed and surpassed the spruce gum in popularity.
  • December 28, 1869, William Semple filed an early patent on chewing gum, patent number 98,304.

Mud packs are used not only for facials but as a full body treatment as well.  The nutrient rich mud is known to clean and replace minerals in your skin.

Mud packs are also known to be a quick treatment for bee and wasp stings.
.
OBSERVE

Call a group of friends and have a mud pack party!  Mud packs are available at the health and beauty sections of your local department stores or at drugstores in your area.  You can also make an appointment and go to a spa for some extra special TLC. Use #MudPackDay to post on social media.

ABC Shoulder Tap Operation Conducted

Date: Monday September 28 2015
Time: 1400-2000 hours
Crime: Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor
Location: Various Locations throughout Pomona
Summary: Officers from the Pomona Police Department participated in a Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap operation on 09/28/15. A concerted effort is being made to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors and Shoulder Tap Operations are a known method to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors.
Operation Details: Two 18 year old females, under the direct supervision of officers, were sent to various liquor/convenient stores throughout the city. The minor(s)then waited outside the front door of each location and mentioned to patrons they were under the age of 21 and asked if they could buy them alcohol. The minors contacted 4 adults and 3 offered to buy alcohol for them. The adults were arrested shortly after they brought out the alcohol to the minor. After it was determined they did not have any outstanding warrants, they were issued citations for furnishing alcohol to a minor, and released pending their court date.
The operation was funded by an Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Grant awarded to the Pomona Police Department.

National Good Neighbor Day – September 28

NATIONAL GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY

National Good Neighbor Day is observed annually on September 28.  This day was created to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of a good neighbor.
It is a blessing to have a good neighbor but it is even a greater thing to BE a good neighbor.
Good neighbors often become friends, they watch out for each other, lend a helping hand and are there for advice when asked.   Neighbors are there when we need to borrow something, to get our mail for us when we are on vacation, to watch our homes and sometimes to watch our children and our pets as well as the many other things we do with our neighbors.
OBSERVE
To celebrate National Good Neighbor Day, do something nice for your neighbor today. Use #GoodNeighborDay to post on social media.
HISTORY
National Good Neighbor Day was created in the early 1970s by Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana.  In 1978 United States President Jimmy Carter issued Proclamation 4601:
“As our Nation struggles to build friendship among the peoples of this world, we are mindful that the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities. The same bonds cement our Nation and the nations of the world. For most of us, this sense of community is nurtured and expressed in our neighborhoods where we give each other an opportunity to share and feel part of a larger family…I call upon the people of the United States and interested groups and organizations to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
In 2003, National Good Neighbor Day was changed from the fourth Sunday in September to September 28.

NASA's tips for photographing the supermoon eclipse this weekend

Planning on catching a glimpse of the supermoon eclipse this Sunday? If you want frame-worthy photos to remember it by, you might want to plan ahead.

Bill Ingalls, NASA's senior photographer, gave some pointers to keep in mind when you break out your lunar enthusiasm and your camera this weekend.

Find the perfect spot

Ingalls uses Google Maps and other apps to preview the sky from any given street, he says. It requires some research but it's worth it.

Get something else in the shot

If it's just the moon, Ingalls says, there's no frame of reference to help understand just how super the moon is. Make sure to get some trees -- or even better, an iconic monument -- in the foreground of your moon photos.

Let your smartphone reach its potential

Even if you're not a serious photographer with a fancy camera, focus can make or break a photo, Ingalls explains. When aiming your smartphone, be sure to tap the moon so it knows what object is meant to be the star of the picture.

The partial lunar eclipse is set to begin at 9:07 p.m. ET Sunday and will be visible to most people in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, according to EarthSky.org. The total eclipse will begin around 10:11 p.m. ET.

If you're in a cloudy area and can't get a glimpse, you can still watch it in real-time on NASA's live-stream. The feed will offer views from around the country, including Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles and the Adler Planetarium in Chicago.

Whether or not you plan to photograph, don't miss your chance to see this rare celestial event. The last time it happened was 1982, and it won't happen until 2033.
