Did you know?

In Ontario’s early days, the area south of Holt Boulevard (which was then known as A Street) was called the South Side Tract. In 1889, Southside School (seen here) was built at the northeast corner of State and San Antonio streets. In 1912, a new Southside School was built at the southwest corner of Euclid Avenue and Ralston Street at a cost of $31,525.00. Since it was a brick building, it sustain...ed considerable damage in the Long Beach earthquake in 1933, so in 1936 it was replaced by a new building, built with Works Progress Administration funds, and was renamed Euclid School. Homer Briggs began his career as a sixth grade teacher at Euclid School in 1935 and he was the first male elementary school teacher hired in the Ontario School District. He became superintendent of the Ontario-Montclair School District in 1951 and retired in 1972.
