Cal Poly's Rose Parade float heads to Pomona for completion

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students have packed up their half of the 2016 Rose Parade float and sent it to Pomona where it will be finished over the next 10 weeks.
The entry is called "Sweet Shenanigans," celebrating the Rose Parade's 2016 theme: "Find Your Adventure," which honors the centennial of our nation's national parks.
Ian Davison is a 5th year engineering student and the university's Rose Parade float leader. He says 21 Cal Poly students have been hard at work on the float from administration to hands-on construction.
"We've got it down to a science. We've got a strong team this year," Davison says. "This is our half-way point. All of the design is done so we have most of the stuff built. Really, this is the point where we kick it into high gear.”
This year, roses will be entirely sourced from California and some have even been grown right on Cal Poly's campus.
For 68 years, the university's float has been the only student-built float in the parade.
In 2014, Cal Poly's "Bedtime Buccaneers" float won the Crown City Innovation Award for best use of imagination and innovation to advance float design.
