See who's nominated in the 2016 Golden Globes

The nominations for the 2016 Golden Globe Awards were announced Thursday morning, and the film Carol tops the list with five nominations.

The announcement comes as yet another indication of who might be up for an Oscar this year following Wednesday's Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. There was some debate as to whether some films would be categorized in the drama or comedy categories, such as Joy and The Martian, though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ruled them both as comedies.

Entertainers learning the news of their awards Thursday morning were excited to be nominated, such as Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, who was nominated for Best Original Song for "One Kind of Love" in the film Love and Mercy.

"My life, my love, my Melinda -- God only knows what I'd be without her," Wilson told ABC in a statement. "She was the inspiration for 'One Kind of Love' and just woke me to tell me the song has been nominated for a Golden Globe -- my mind is blown!"

Director Alejandro Inarritu followed up his Oscar-winning film Birdman with this year's The Revenant. It got four Golden Globes nominations, including one for the film's star, Leonardo DiCaprio.

"Any nominations for this film are an acknowledgement of them, their hard work and great passion," he told ABC in a statement. "I'm especially happy for Leo, his emotional performance and what he does is truly remarkable. This film is very personal for me; so I think I will have a drink with my daughter tonight to toast to everyone who was a part of it."

One of the nominees for Best Screenplay, Emma Donoghue, also wrote the book upon which the film is based. Room, an independent film based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is also up for Best Motion Picture -- Drama.

"To be named in such honorable company -- especially since Room is my first feature film -- is a startling delight," Donoghue told ABC in a statement.

The 73rd Golden Globes will take place on January 10, 2016. Here are the nominees for the major categories:
