ON LOCATION OLD GENERAL DYNAMICS PLANT

  1. I used to work there too, mostly in building 2. We built a lot more than missles there, some information is still classified to this day.
General Dynamics Pomona Division did a lot for its employees both hourly & salaried employees.
In the early days, they had a cafeteria for the employees that was quite good. They had a little infirmary & med clinic for the employees and a tool shop to buy the tools you needed that didn't get included in the company issued toolbox.
General Dynamics, GD, teamed up to create the Pomona Recreation Association (PRA) for its employees and created a gymnaisium, softball field and tennis courts. They had special events such as company sponsored softnall tournaments to keep the teamwork spirit going amongst competitors and such.
They had special events such as Disneyland night for its employees of aerospace workers around Southern California as well.
It was quite a little city inside the gates of the Pomona Division, lots of frienships were made and of course there were dark times too with labor disputes and those that broke the rules of conduct but overall, it was a great place to work and made some good careers for people that carried on in generations with families.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the outbreak of more peaceful times, downsizing ramped up and jobs were lost throughout the Southland. As an unemployed aerospace worker, you could not find work even at a fast food place because you had enjoyed a good wage and benefits and the fast food places wouldn't touch you.
I was there for eight years and enjoyed the work.

  3. I used to work for the R. V. Weatherford Company on 3rd Street. GeeDee was their big customer for many years. I used to make deliveries to the Navy Gage and Meteorology Labs. They were inside a gate on First Street that faced the UP and SP RR tracks
