Mayor Elliott Rothman and Councilwoman Paula Lantz have been in office too long

Rothman and Lantz have been in office too long
Pomona mayor Elliot Rothman and Councilwoman Paula Lantz have been in office for a combined total of more than 40 years, and today Pomona has the dubious distinction of being listed among the 10 most dangerous cities in California! What were they doing all of this time?
Well, Rothman won his first mayoral race by collecting 47 one-thousand-dollar checks — some were illegal — largely orchestrated by the trash-mafia that has entered our city. Four years later, he was given campaign contributions to orchestrate the Valley Vista trash transfer station, for which he is still benefiting from in this election cycle.
Paula Lantz, on the other hand, contrary to her self-righteous image, has always been a front for big money. As a new council member in 1992, I personally battled against her as she fronted for a $1.7 million giveaway to a nonprofit run by friends of hers (the project went bankrupt and the city lost the money).
And her associates have continued to benefit from her generosity with taxpayers’ money. A recent HUD investigation of Lantz cited conflicts of interest that have benefited developers.
If these two politicians were leading a private corporation, they would have been fired a long time ago. Instead, they oversee a $200 million government entity where the stockholders and taxpayers are just not paying attention.
Twenty-five years for Paula Lantz, 20 years for Elliot Rothman — that’s just too long, especially when you look at the city’s dismal performance.
