Ren's did you know?

The Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad was organized in 1901 to build a railway from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City providing Southern California with a transcontinental rail link, which became an important artery for citrus and freight shippers. In January 1903 construction of the railroad reached Ontario. That same year a depot was constructed on East State Street, pictured here in 1972 by photographer Robert Gaddie. The depot was in use until about 1976 and it was demolished in 1977. The Salt Lake Route as it was called was acquired by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1921 and is still in operation today.
