From about 1888 to 1890, Professor William Ludwig Piutti was music professor at Chaffey College. Born in Germany in 1856, Professor Piutti sailed to New York City in 1879 and made his way to Southern California. This interesting photograph shows the professor front and center with his students at Chaffey in 1889, along with his dog, Maida. After leaving Chaffey College, Professor Piutti married 17... year old Gertrude Clark Spring of Los Angeles, and the couple had four children. Professor Piutti was appointed to the Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific in 1896, and for many years he performed piano recitals, sometimes returning to Ontario to perform. He died in 1910 in Houston, Texas.
