Access AMOCA K-12 is the heart of our public school programs. AMOCA partners with Title 1, K-12 schools within 60 miles of the Museum. Participating teachers attend a training workshop: to learn practical ways of integrating art and ceramics into their curriculum; receive sample lesson plans and ceramic vocabulary lists; participate in a hands-on clay activity in the Ceramics Studio and tour current exhibitions. After the workshop, each teacher schedules a 4-hour field trip to AMOCA for up to 50 students and six chaperones. All field trips include transportation, admission, transportation, tours, gallery guides, and a hands-on clay activity in the Ceramics Studio. This program is funded in part of the Joseph and Ruth Reed Foundation.
Free Family Days encourages families to learn about, and experience art and culture together. Families are provided free admission, exhibition tours and an opportunity to work with clay in the Ceramics Studio. These engaging experiences promote creativity, family bonding, and life-long memories that can spark a larger interest in the pursuit of art for both parents and children. This program serves our most diverse communities and draws toddlers to great grandparents.
AMOCA’s Speaker Series includes presentations by artists and curator. The program features artists in our current exhibitions or visiting artists to AMOCA’s Ceramics Studio. Recent presenters include: Cynthia Consentino, Chris Gustin, Garth Johnson, Nancy Selvin, Michael Sherrill, Dirk Staschke, and Joan Takayama-Ogawa.
Free Exhibition Tours are provided for college and senior citizen groups and include free admission and a docent- or staff-led tour that is tailored towards the knowledge and interests of each group.
92nd Street Y Virtual Clay is a series of real-time online classes that gather a vibrant community of artists, designers and art historians who discuss important topics in ceramics. These online conversations are meant to challenge preconceptions and explore new territory, inspiring participants to think about the world in fresh and different ways. AMOCA streams these presentations in our education area.
Free Second Saturdays welcomes the community to visit AMOCA free of charge on the second Saturday of every month. This event is in conjunction with the City of Pomona Art Walk, when the community comes out for art openings, lectures, and performances. By opening our doors every second Saturday, we are providing opportunities to those who may not otherwise visit the Museum.
Lunch and Lecture is an opportunity for emerging to mid-career artists to present their work, speak about their process, and share their inspirations. This program largely draws from AMOCA’s studio artists and students, museum members, and students from local colleges and universities.
