Open to the public, Planes of Fame Air Museum (Chino, CA) presents its monthly Living History Flying Day on November 4, 2017, featuring the Northrop N9MB Flying Wing. A speaker panel of distinguished aviation experts, historians and veterans is featured, followed by a question & answer period and flight demonstration when possible. The Northrop N9MB Flying Wing will be on display and perform a flight demonstration (weather & other conditions permitting). At 12:00 noon, the Raffle Flight will occur. Become a member to enter the Raffle. All members are eligible to enter the Raffle, but you must be present to win.
This presentation will examine several of the test aircraft within the Museum’s collection and inclu...de presentations on the history of test flight, review some of the key individuals and milestones in aircraft testing, and give those in attendance a better understanding of the role of the test pilot during experimental, prototype, and operational test phases.
During this two-hour presentation, we will provide a survey of three test aircraft in the Museum’s collection – the Douglas D-558-II Skyrocket, the Ryan FR-1 Fireball, and the Northrop N9MB Flying Wing. Additionally, Tony Johansing, a Planes of Fame Air Museum Tour Guide, will remember his grandfather – aviation pioneer Jack Northrop. N9MB pilot David Vopat will relate what it’s like to fly the N9MB. An overview of the history of Flight Test and some of the more notable test pilots and their accomplishments will serve as an introduction to members of the B-2 “Spirit” flight test program.
