Temporary Moratorium on Foreclosures and Evictions

You may have heard that yesterday Governor Newsom took executive action to establish a statewide moratorium on evictions for renters affected by COVID-19 through May 31, 2020. This statewide action provides further support to the moratorium of foreclosures and evictions we enacted in Pomona effective March 19th. Our moratorium goes further than the statewide action, extending protections to renters regardless of immigration status, commercial businesses who rent space, and initiation of residential and commercial foreclosures. In addition, the order suspends city utility shutoffs, parking citations, and associated fees for delinquent payment.
The Council and I took this action because we recognized early on the affect that the COVID-19 virus was having on Pomona businesses, and the livelihood of Pomona families. You can learn about procedures for how to notify your landlord of COVID-19-related hardship, and how to proceed if you receive an eviction notification, by reading our press release on this moratorium.
I am mindful of the difficulties of this time and hope to help ease those concerns by providing temporary relief to those who may be facing eviction or possible homelessness. I would like to express my thanks to all who have stepped up--healthcare workers, police, fire, businesses, government employees, and supermarket and warehouse workers--who are working so that we can all have the things that we need at this crucial time.
Respectfully,

Tim Sandoval
Mayor
City of Pomona
