On Saturday, July 24, 2021, members of the Pomona Police Department participated in a Tobacco Minor Decoy Operation conducted throughout the City of Pomona. A concerned effort is being made to reduce the availability of tobacco to minors, and Minor Decoy Operations are a known method to reduce the availability of tobacco.
The Minor Decoy Operation involved a 19 year old minor, under the direct supervision of officers, who entered 11 separate tobacco licensed retail stores and attempted to purchase tobacco. Of the 11 locations that were visited, 2 sold to the minor.
The following locations sold to the minor decoy during this operation:
-Chevron Gas & Mart, 1200 E. Mission Blvd. Pomona, Ca.
-Smoke Shop, 355 E. Mission Blvd, Pomona, Ca.
The employees who furnished tobacco to the minor were issued a citation and the case will be referred to the LA County District Attorney’s Office. The violators may qualify for diversion, and or, a fine.
This Operation is part of the California DOJ Tobacco Grant Project, funded by the California Healthcare, Research and Prevention Tax Act (Proposition 56). The Pomona Police Department would also like to remind you the minimum legal age to purchase tobacco is 21 years of age.
