It was a busy weekend for your Pomona Police Officers. Over the weekend (Friday – Sunday) we received more than 700 Calls for Service.


 Friday, July 23

Just after 8pm Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a vehicle code violation. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated. Major Crimes Task Force Officers and a Supervisor continued to monitor the vehicle and eventually executed a PIT maneuver. The PIT maneuver was successful and the driver was arrested and booked at the Pomona City Jail.
Around 10:30pm, Officers were dispatched to a man with a knife call at Wendy’s- 3200 Temple Ave. Upon arrival, the suspect, who was armed with what appeared to be a knife, became uncooperative. Officers attempted to deescalate the situation. After some time, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Just before midnight, Officers were dispatched to a hit and run traffic collision in the area of Mission Blvd./Reservoir St. When Officers arrived, they located an unresponsive male adult. Unfortunately the male adult was pronounced deceased at the scene. The PPD Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation. Saturday, July 24
It was another busy day with a steady amount of Calls for Service. Fortunately, we don’t have anything major to report.
Sunday, July 25
At approximately 9:30pm Pomona Police Officers responded to 1100 blk. of S. Reservoir St. in reference to gunshots being fired. Upon arrival, Officers located a male adult down in a yard suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives from the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to assume the investigation. There is no suspect information at this time and the motive is unknown. The investigation is still on-going.
Just before midnight, Officers responded to an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Vehicle) investigation that took place on the Northbound 57 off-ramp near Temple Ave. Both parties were located and a criminal report was taken.
Officers assisted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) with a shooting that occurred on the 60 freeway. The suspect fled the location and was last seen in the 2700 block of S. Towne Ave. Officers responded to the 2700 block to assist with the search of the suspect. Corporal Hornby located the suspect and recovered a firearm. The suspect was taken into custody by CHP.
