Parking Violation Leads To Felony Arrest

LOCATION: 1800 W. Orange Grove Av., Pomona, CA

CRIME/CHARGES:

  • 29800 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • 25850 (C)(6) PC – Possession of an Unregistered Firearm
  • 30305 (a)(1) PC – Felon in Possession of Ammunition  
SUSPECT: Monroy, Freddy Paul – 47 year old, Pomona resident

NARRATIVE: 

On Friday, September 1, 2021; Officers from Pomona Police Department's,
 Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) were patrolling areas within the city known to
 have a reputation for criminal activity. While on the 1800 block of W. Orange Grove Av., 
 Officers noticed a white pick-up truck that was parked in the red zone of the 
neighborhood.
 A closer look at the violation revealed there was a sole occupant in the truck. Officers recognized the occupant as, Freddy Monroy, a previously convicted felon. The parking violation led Officers to speak to Monroy while he stood outside of his truck. 
Officers subsequently pat down searched Monroy with his permission.
 During the search Officers found Monroy to be armed with a loaded/unregistered firearm. The firearm was recovered and Monroy was arrested for illegally possessing
 the handgun.
 Monroy was taken into custody and transported to the Pomona city jail where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.
 
UNIT:
 
The Pomona Police Department’s, Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF)
 is a specialized unit within the police department that is responsible for suppressing
 gang
 violence, investigating drug offenses and pursuing wanted persons.
 The team is comprised of two supervisors, four officers and two additional 
officers from the California Highway Patrol – Baldwin Park Office.
