The DeafNation Expo began in 2003, starting with six expos. Today, DeafNation hosts 10-15 expos annually, having attracted in excess of 800,000 attendees since.

Since 1968, our students have studied USSD’s unique system of Kempo-style martial arts from the finest instructors in the United States. From the earliest beginnings nearly 2000 years ago, the martial arts have been steeped in tradition. Nowhere else will you feel that sense of rich history than at a USSD studio.
Registered participants compete in a number of categories, age groups and divisions. Held in Club 1 at the Grandstand.

'Kids Night Out' Aims to Give Parents a Night Out Without the Kids

Kid’s Night Out provides kids a night of fun and play so mom and dad can enjoy an evening out or a quiet evening at home.
This event is held at the Arcadia Community Center, 365 Campus Drive, Arcadia, California 91007, from 6-11pm on May 10. Recreation Staff and Volunteers offer dinner, themed games, movies, and supervision for children ages 4 and above. All activities will be geared toward elementary school children; anyone younger must be potty trained. Accommodations cannot be made for special dietary needs.
The cost is $15.00 per child and also includes snacks and beverages. Pre-registration is mandatory and a $2 registration fee is applicable for those participants not registered in any other spring classes.
Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured in Pomona
A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Pomona early Wednesday was airlifted to a trauma center, authorities said.
The crash on East Holt Boulevard -- near North East End Avenue -- was reported about 6:20 a.m., according to a Los Angeles County fire information officer.
An ambulance took the pedestrian to Washington Park, at 865 Grand Ave., where a helicopter landed so the patient could be loaded for transport, authorities said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
Pizza N Such Owners File Claim Against City
Money paid out by the owners and operators of Claremont’s Pizza N Such restaurant to the city for parking is at the heart of a lawsuit recently filed against the city, according to news reports.
Mike and Sue Verbal, owners of Pizza N Such, claim the city misused $164,000 in parking fees they paid out for the development of parking, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin is reporting.
According to the Bulletin and the Claremont Courier newspaper, the Verbals claim the money went toward the construction of a parking structure in the Village West area near the Packing House instead of the Claremont Village. The parking structure is blocks away west of Indian Hill.

Clifton Middle School Locked Down During Search for Burglary Suspect
Monrovia Police briefly locked down Clifton Middle School Wednesday afternoon while chasing a burglary suspect who ran onto school grounds.
The man allegedly fled police while they were trying to serve him a no-bail warrant in the area at about 2:30 p.m. He ran onto the Clifton campus and police immediately locked it down while setting up a search perimeter, Monrovia Police Lt. Nels Ortlund said.
"He ran from the officers, then ran through the school," Ortlund said.
The suspect, 29-year-old Tony Rodgers of Monrovia, is on parole for prior theft convictions. He was able to elude capture Wednesday.
"We know who he is so we'll be continuing to look for him," Ortlund said.
The school was re-opened at about 2:45 p.m., Ortlund said.
Red Flag Warning Issued for Diamond Bar-Walnut
The National Weather Service has issued a red-flag warning for Los Angeles County, including Diamond Bar and Walnut.
Most of the county is expected to see gusty northeast winds and low relative humidity starting today throuh Thursday, according to a news release. Winds are expected to gust at speeds between 45 and 55 mph in the mountains and 35 to 45 mph in the valleys, which will increase the fire danger in the region, authorities said.
The increased fire danger has prompted Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby to order additional staffing and deploy extra resources countywide.
The fire department is reminding residents in brush areas to take the following precautions:
- Report any sign of smoke right away to your local fire department by calling 9-1-1.
- Use extreme caution with operating machinery in brush areas.
- If living in brush areas or near hazardous grass, have a wildfire action plan. Be familiar with LACoFD’s READY! SET! GO! Program that provides important pre-planning and evacuation information to residents. Visit www.fire.lacounty.gov for more information.
- Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to law enforcement.
