NATIONAL CORN CHIP DAY
National Corn Chip Day is celebrated annually on January 29th. National Corn Chip Day is not to be confused with National Tortilla Chip Day which is held in February. Corn chips have been enjoyed by us all since they were first invented by Fritos The story is that according to the company website (http://www.fritolay.com/) C.E. “Elmer” Doolin was frustrated that tortillas just did not stay fresh long enough at his store. One day in 1932, he met a man selling fried corn chips. After he pawned his mama’s wedding ring, he paid the man $100 for his recipe (in those days that was a lot of money). The family experimented with the recipe until they came up with the perfect concoction, began selling his crisps from his Model T Ford, and the rest is history. The American corn chips snack was born.Hundreds of recipes for corn chips and dips can be found on websites and in cookbooks everywhere.
On January 29, enjoy some corn chips while doing a puzzle or two!!

We have read the history of the corn chip however, the origin of the National Corn Chip Day, an unofficial holiday, has yet to be found. It is possible that this holiday may have been created by the greeting card industry.

NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY
NATIONAL PUZZLE DAY, an unofficial holiday, is always celebrated on January 29th. There are puzzle celebrations and events held at museums, libraries and other venues around the country. Crossword puzzles are the most common however, Sudoku is the most recent puzzle rage. There are puzzles that fit into the needs of every person and every skill level, for the young and the old. There are also word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, puzzle books and many many more. Maybe you would like to find a puzzle game and challenge your friends or check with your local library or a website for a puzzle game. Good News
The city came by today and cleaned the fountains, the second picture of the fountain, looks a little murky. But in time it will clear up. I want to thank the city and also Christian Ornelas for the heads up on the fountains, getting cleaned
Happy Birthday, George Chaffey!
Ambitious George Chaffey was born on January 28, 1848 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. As a young boy, his father moved the family to Kingston, Ontario where George and his siblings attended school. Due to poor health, George was removed from school at age thirteen, but his interest in engineering drove him to continue his education on his own. Starting in his early teens, George began working and building a life for himself. He worked in his ...father’s shipyard learning the craft of shipbuilding, earned his ship’s engineer certificate, commanded his own tug boat, obtained business experience working in his uncle’s insurance office in Toronto, got married, had two of this three sons, and began a career designing lake ships, including the S.S. Geneva which was featured in an 1876 issue of Scientific American due to its phenomenal speed, all before he began his adventures on land in California in 1880.
