Southland Gasoline Prices Drop to Lowest Since January

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped to its lowest amount since Jan. 18 today, falling six-tenths of a cent to $3.74.

The average price has decreased 40 of the past 41 days and is 5.2 cents less than one week ago, 21.5 cents lower than one month ago and 49.7 cents below one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

The Orange County average price dropped to its lowest amount since Jan. 17, falling eight-tenths of a cent to $3.707.
The Orange County average price has decreased for 41 consecutive days and is 4.9 cents less than one week ago, 21.6 cents lower than one month ago and 48.9 cents below one year ago.

The Orange County average price has fallen 33.3 cents over the past 41 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Sunday. The dropping prices were immediately preceded by a 14-day streak of rising prices totaling 20.3 cents.

The 40-day streak of declines is the longest since a 75-day streak from Oct. 9 to Dec. 22, 2012.

The day will be the first this week to break into the 80s. The daytime high will hover around 80 degrees. The low will be around 54.

El Monte Rape Arraignment to be Heard in Pomona

Joseph Leo Amaya is accused of raping a clerk at an El Monte convenience store.

An 18-year-old man accused of of raping a clerk at an El Monte convenience store was expected to be arraigned tomorrow at Pomona Superior Court.
Joseph Leo Amaya is charged with two counts of forcible rape and three counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object. The charges include an allegation that he kidnapped the victim, a 19-year-old college student, to commit those crimes.

Amaya allegedly approached the victim as she was working the night shift at the Peck Mini Mart at 4164 N. Peck Road. He left the store, but allegedly returned when the clerk was getting ready to close up.
As she tried to lock the doors, Amaya forced his way back in, barricaded the entrance and dragged the young woman to the back of the store, where he repeatedly sexually assaulted her, prosecutors allege.
Public tips and investigation by the U.S. Marshal's Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force and county Sheriff's and Probation departments led to Amaya's arrest in West Covina on Saturday.
Police say he is a gang member with the initials of his gang tatooed on his right arm.
Amaya was jailed in lieu of $5 million bail. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of 125 years to life in state prison.

Ontario Fury Score Impressive Win in Debut

The Ontario Fury made an impressive debut Oct. 26, defeating the visiting Toros Mexico 16-8 in a preseason game at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.

The Fury, an expansion franchise in the Professional Arena Soccer League, drew 5,285 fans for the first-ever indoor soccer game at the Ontario arena. Ontario will open its regular season with a game that will kick off at 4 p.m. Nov. 10 against the Dallas Sidekicks.
In the Oct. 26 game, Ontario jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:13 of the game, and never looked back, building a 6-2 lead after the first quarter, and an 8-3 lead at the half. Mexico rallied in the third quarter, closing the score to 10-6, before the Fury pulled away, scoring five of the game’s last six goals.
Zach Bautista, who is originally from Orange, Calif., led the Fury with three goals on the night, including two goals in 55 seconds in the fourth quarter to close out Ontario’s scoring. Mexico got five goals from Gerardo Villa in the losing effort.
Also pitching in for the Fury were Tino Nunez (Long Beach, Calif.), who had two goals and one assist in the game. Brazilian born Tiguinho had one goal and four assists for Ontario, while former San Diego Sockers’ star Majell Aterado had a pair of goals for the Fury, which fired 36 shots on Mexico goalie Obie Clibourne.
Brazilian goaltender Sanaldo got the victory for Ontario, stopping 16 of 19 shots in 37:30 of playing time. Manny Kaji, who played at Citrus College and Cal State Northridge, stopped five of 10 shots faced in relief.

LA County Assessor Noguez Faces New Charges, Pleads Not Guilty

Noguez is also charged with 19 counts of misappropriation of public funds, five counts of perjury by declaration, four counts of accepting a bribe and two counts of conspiracy, for a total of 36 felony counts.

Los Angeles County Assessor John Noguez and co- defendant Ramin Salari pleaded not guilty today to new counts of embezzlement and grand theft based on allegations that the assessor's office reduced property tax assessments for political donors as far back as 1996.
Noguez, who was elected assessor in 2010, has been on leave since he was arrested Oct. 17, 2012, in the probe of his office, which included the arrests of appraiser Scott Schenter, chief appraiser Mark McNeil and campaign contributor and tax consultant Salari.
Noguez, 48, and Salari, 50, appeared before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge George Lomeli and were arraigned on three new counts each of embezzlement and grand theft.
Noguez is also charged with 19 counts of misappropriation of public funds, five counts of perjury by declaration, four counts of accepting a bribe and two counts of conspiracy, for a total of 36 felony counts.

The new counts involve three additional downtown properties appraised at a lower value, according to prosecutors. More than $10 million in taxpayer money was allegedly lost as a result of the illegal tax reductions related to those properties and others in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Pasadena, Marina del Rey and the South Bay.
Salari also pleaded not guilty to an additional three counts each of embezzlement and grand theft, bringing the number of felony charges against him to 65.
The tax consultant then appeared in a second downtown courtroom to answer three charges of tax evasion brought by the Public Integrity Division in a related case. Salari pleaded not guilty there as well.
Noguez and Salari are scheduled to return to court on Jan. 30 to set a date for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is sufficient evidence for them to stand trial.
If convicted, the assessor faces more than 50 years in jail. Salari faces more than 75 years.
In May 2012, then-District Attorney Steve Cooley called for Noguez to resign, saying:
"This particular case, what I know about it, strikes me as the largest and most significant public corruption case in terms of county government, very, very significant, very substantial. This is an elected official and this is a serious case involving bribery and corruption."

Human Torso Found at Water Treatment Plant Near Industry

Human remains were found today in the Industry area, authorities said.
The remains were discovered about 9:25 a.m. in the 1900 block of Workman Mill Road, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.
ABC7 reported that the remains -- which appeared to be a person's upper body -- were found at a water treatment facility.

Lincoln Park that's right folk's this is Lincoln Park way back in the day, looking north. I wouldn't doubt that this picture was taken early 1900's. Hardly see any houses, back then it was mostly groves, so there was a lot of open space. But the south part of Pomona was growing. So I guess you can call the people now that live around Lincoln Park a bunch of Johnny come Lately Folk's. I mean if your going to talk about Pomona let's talk about it as a hole, not just one neighborhood.

 

 

 

 Because there is a lot more history in Pomona that doesn't get that much attention. For instance did you know that Walter Knott use to live in Pomona on W. Fourth St. here is a picture of the house and still there to this day. Maybe if it was on the north side it would get more attention and put on the Historic List. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO the powers at be seems like they look the other way, I've been talking about the house for years, but I guess to death ears.

By the way for those who don't know who Walter Knott is, same person who started Knott's Berry Farm along with his wife lived here, before the famous farm.

Updated: Diamond Bar Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Near Walnut

 

California Highway Patrol says the driver left behind "several pieces of vehicle debris that were taken into evidence."
A pedestrian was killed by a vehicle next to the Cal Poly Pomona campus Sunday, and the driver left behind evidence before speeding off, police said.

Christopher Guerrero, 36, of Diamond Bar was walking westbound in the number right lane of West Temple Avenue and Campus Drive around 5:15 a.m. He was struck by a Chevy truck or SUV that was also heading westbound, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The intersection sits at the line of the city of Walnut and Cal Poly Pomona.

It's unclear why Guerrero was in the street, said Sgt. Maehr of the CHP.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There were several pieces of vehicle debris left at the scene that were taken into evidence," Maehr said.

Westbound Temple Avenue was closed to traffic at University Drive at 7:28 a.m. and was re-opened by the CHP by 10 a.m.

Ptown Church

 

Well I had to bring the church back and do a little work on it. Bird damage to the cross, I had the cross on top of the church, but I guess the birds used it for a lookout. So while I had it back at the shop I tried to do a little waterproofing. Just have to waite and see, but he wood I used for everything isn't the best. So I expect to see some water damage to them, and also I put a shinny metal behind the cross. And the same goes for the top of the church.
