500+ Drivers Arrested in Holiday Weekend DUI Crackdown


A total of 529 people were arrested in Los Angeles County on suspicion of driving under the influence between 12:01 a.m. on Friday and midnight on Sunday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The preliminary number of arrests in Los Angeles County were made during the "Avoid the 100 Los Angeles County DUI Campaign," during which officers representing 100 law enforcement agencies made arrests.
Law enforcement officers from both Claremont and La Verne planned DUI patrols on Friday, May 24 as a part of the operation, according to Avoid the 100 officials.

There were 35 DUI arrests in Orange County between 6:01 p.m. on Friday and Monday morning at 6:00, according to the California Highway Patrol.

1133 people in California were arrested for DUI during the same period, according to the California Highway Patrol, which reports 15 fatalities in the state.

Impaired driving statistic data will be collected through midnight tonight, officials said. Some agencies have yet to report DUI arrests, according to the department.
