Man is Killed by Metrolink Train in Claremont


A pedestrian was struck by a Metrolink train and killed today in Claremont, authorities said.

The person, described only as a male, died at the scene of his injury, which occurred about 6 a.m. near Indian Hill Boulevard and Santa Fe Street, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.Jeff Lustgarten of Metrolink said train number 383, westbound on the San Bernardino Line, was carrying about 350 passengers, and no one was hurt on the train. The passengers were transferred to another train, and there were some delays reported on other trains.

Within a couple of hours, officials were allowing trains to pass slowly through the area on a second track while the investigation was being conducted.
