Monrovia Police Arrest Man for Carrying Modified BB Gun

A man was arrested after a high risk traffic stop in Monrovia Monday night when authorities received a tip that he was carrying a handgun that turned out to be a modified BB gun, police said.

A woman called police around 8 p.m. and said she saw a man put a gun in his waistband and get into a Chevrolet Impala traveling eastbound from Alta Vista Avenue, Monrovia Police Sgt. Don Newton said.
Police stopped the car in the 100 block of West Evergreen Avenue and found one of the passengers carrying an Airsoft pistol, Newton said.

"The Airsoft had the red tip removed and that's illegal," Newton said. "They look identical to real weapons."

An Airsoft pistol is a BB gun that shoots hard plastic balls, Monrovia Police Sgt. Don Newton said.

The name of the man who was arrested was not immediately available, Newton said. Two other men inside the vehicle were not arrested.
