Each year the PSA selects a different location for this Annual Exhibition to help foster new awareness of their talented members artwork as well as to be inspired by new surroundings. The Members of PSA Board of Directors are thrilled to be in the Pomona Arts Colony for the month of June. The Pasadena Society of Artists (PSA) Founded in 1925, is one of the area’s original professional artist groups. The Society is noted for its vigorous, active membership, wide diversity of artistic statement, and high professional standards. Membership is by juried submission. PSA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to present the works of its many talented and creative artists to the community of Pasadena and surrounding areas. Combining an active tradition of community participation and partnering with local community arts organizations, as well as philanthropic, humanitarian and educational institutions, PSA endeavors to enhance public awareness of art and the enriching qualities it brings to our lives. The Juror for this exhibition is Gloria Williams Sander. Gloria Williams Sander is a curator at the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena, California. Prior to joining the Simon institution, she worked in the Department of European Drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum, and in the European Paintings Department of the Los Angeles County Museum Art. At the Norton Simon Museum, Gloria has organized numerous exhibitions including Significant Objects: The Spell of Still Life (2012-13), Surface Truths: Abstract Painting in the Sixties (2011), The Collectible Moment: Photography in the Norton Simon Museum(2006), Marcel Duchamp: Redux (2008). Her various publications, in English and Italian journals, include articles on Old Master Paintings and a selection of essays for the Encyclopedia of Early Modern Europe, 1450-1789, 2003. She is currently collaborating on a monograph, to be published by the University of California Press, in honor of Peter Bunnell’s groundbreaking exhibit Photography into Sculpture, which debuted at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1970. In addition to her curatorial responsibilities at the Museum, Gloria is the West coast editor for caa.reviews, the online journal of the College Art Association, and a member of the Liturgical Arts Committee for the newly opened Our Savior Catholic Church on the grounds of the University of Southern California. Gloria William Sander’s Juror’s statement: “The Pasadena Society of Artists, a group of energetic, passionate art makers, submitted more than 100 art works to this years’ Annual Juried show. They were varied in subject and approach, and the range of media, which included oil, acrylic, watercolor, clay, marble, silver gelatin and digital photography, etching, and mixed media conveyed the varied interests and considerable technical skills of the artists. As Juror, the responsibility, pleasure and challenge of selecting the most outstanding objects for this exhibit fell to me. While looking closely at all the submissions, I was reminded that, while many of us know about the art and artists from distant lands, thanks to the media and advertising, few of us experience the production of the talented visual artists in our immediate community. The Pasadena Society of Artists is a primary source for the local engagement of practicing artists, and for the community. The work presented in this exhibit evidences the inventiveness and dedication to process that artists bring to bear in creating a work of art. I thank the Society for extending to me the honor of serving as a juror for their 2013 exhibition, and encourage the artists, and the community alike, to take pride in their achievements."
