Claremont Colleges Sends Safety Warning to Campus
Following an armed robbery of a student on the Claremont Colleges campus Sunday evening, Campus Ssafety sent out the following advisory:
On Sunday evening, 6/30/13, at around 9:00pm, a student of The Claremont Colleges reported that she had just been robbed while walking from a campus parking lot to her nearby student residence hall. Student reported that the suspect brandished a weapon and asked for her purse. Suspect took the student’s purse and ran away from the campus. Student is safe and unharmed. A police report has been filed and the Claremont Police Department is currently investigating.
Suspect is described as a male, wearing a dark colored baseball cap, dark jacket, with a thick mustache – no further description.
Helpful reminders: please feel free to contact Campus Safety for safety escorts while on campus, and immediately report any suspicious activity to Campus Safety’s 24-hour Dispatch Center at 909-607-2000.
Additionally, remember to always take reasonable, personal safety precautions, which could include:
· Traveling in groups and always being aware of your surroundings
· Locking the entry door into your room, especially when you are asleep.
· Securing your windows and balcony doors, especially if you live on the first floor.
· Not using your dorm window as an entrance or exit.
· Never leaving your dorm room unattended and unlocked.
· Securing your residence hall door after your entry and exit, and never leaving it propped open.
· Not letting strangers follow you into residence halls.
