Claremont Colleges Student Robbed at Gunpoint

Claremont police asked for the public's help Monday with finding a man suspected of robbing a local college student at gunpoint.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday, in a parking lot along Mills Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, according to Claremont Police Lieutenant Aaron Fate.

"The victim was walking through a parking lot when she was approached by the suspect," Fate said.  "The suspect displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victim’s purse."
According to Claremont Colleges security officials, the victim was walking from her car to a nearby residence hall when she was robbed.  The man ran away after the crime, and hasn't been seen since, police said.

Police described the suspect as Hispanic, approximately 30 years old, 5 feet -10 inches tall and "heavyset."

"The suspect had on a hat and had a moustache," Fate added.  "The suspect was last seen wearing a dark jacket over a grey shirt and dark pants."
