Pomona Man Popped for Alleged Home Invasion of Elderly

A 40-year-old Pomona man was in custody Thursday following his arrest in a home invasion robbery of two 80-year-old victims, police said.

Lamont Jason Howard was booked into the county jail on suspicion of home invasion robbery and probation violation; he remained behind bars pending a court appearance Monday, sheriff's records show.

Police were called about 3:30 a.m. to  the 400 block of Paloma Drive to investigate a home invasion, officials said.
The victims told officers that several items were taken -- including a red purse and wallet -- before the thief ran out the back door, police said.
Arriving officers searched the area and spotted a suspect matching the description of the burglar in the area of Monterey and San Antonio avenues, police said.
They stopped the man for questioning and -- near where a witness had last seen the man -- police found the stolen red purse on East Holt Avenue; the purse had a wallet, identification cards and cash, police said.
But officers also allegedly found a second wallet in the suspect's pocket, containing ID and money.
