Meetings Regarding Oil Drilling in Hermosa Beach Pending
Following a settlement with an oil company in order to avoid a costly trial and possible bankruptcy, the city of Hermosa is once again poised for a momentous decision; this time, a coming vote on whether to allow drilling in the city.
But before any vote is taken -- the date has yet to be set -- residents will be invited to discuss the proposal to drill on Sept. 12 and again on Sept. 23.
The future of oil drilling in Hermosa Beach will be up to voters under a settlement of a 14-year, multimillion-dollar lawsuit brought against the city by a Santa Monica-based oil-drilling company.
Macpherson Oil Co. agreed to drop its lawsuit in 2012 and assign its lease and permits for an oil project at the city maintenance yard to E & B Natural Resources Management Corp., subject to a voter-approved ballot measure.
In the meantime, an environmental impact report, Health Impact Assessment and Cost/Benefit Analysis are in the works, according to The Beach Reporter.
According to the newspaper's website, on Sept. 12, a meeting will be held at the Clark Building, 861 Valley Drive to discuss the future of the city.
On Sept. 23 residents can ask about the cost benefit analysis and health impact report.
That meeting will be held between in the Hermosa Beach Community Theater, 710 Pier Ave.
