The decline of the airport impacts the entire area. Bringing it back under local control has the support of Claremont and La Verne. But it could cost millions to make it a successful airport.
The local fight to bring Ontario’s airport back under local control and stop its declining performance may have a new wrinkle according to a report by the Riverside Press Enterprise.
According to the paper, it’s operators will have to invest millions to reduce airport charges and do aggressive marketing to bring back airlines and flights. Currently the airport is under the control of Los Angeles World Airports.
The Press Enterprise based its information based on a study conducted by aviation services and consulting firm Oliver Wyman, to be presented to the Ontario International Airport Authority board today.

“The report projects a further loss of 8,000 jobs and $430 million in economic impact to the region, on top of previous losses of 10,100 jobs and $540 million due to ONT’s decline in flights and passengers,” the PE reported.
Several cities, including Claremont and La Verne, have supported the effort to bring the airport back under local control. Ontario recently filed a lawsuit as part of the effort.
