Santa Monica Art Museum Receives Warhol Grant

The money will support a Fall 2014 exhibit.

Two art grants awarded by the Andy Warhol Foundation will help bring a new exhibit to the Santa Monica Museum of Art next year.

The museum received a total of $121,500 made up of a $41,500 research grant and an $80,000 implementation grant from the foundation, which will help fund a Fall 2014 Citizen Culture: Artists and Architects Shape Policy exhibit.

The exhibit, organized by independent curator Lucía Sanromán, will examine  the capacity for artists and architects, working alongside citizens and local governments throughout the Americas, to reshape public policy and legislation.

The museum's executive director, Elsa Longhauser, noted continued support from the Warhol Foundation since 2000.

"They responded immediately to the urgency and importance of Citizen Culture—an exhibition that underscores the power of art as a catalyst for social change," she said.

The Andy Warhol Foundation's recent grants bring its total contribution to the museum’s exhibitions and programs to more than half a million dollars.
