Huffing Suspected in Claremont McKenna's Student's Death

The cause of death of a Claremont McKenna College student, who may have been "huffing" nitrous oxide in his dorm room, has been deferred pending further tests, the coroner's office reported today.

Ali Wallace Mirza, 19, of Westport, Conn. died at a hospital about 2 a.m. Friday after being found unresponsive in the room, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

An autopsy was conducted, and the cause of death was listed as "deferred," pending additional tests, Winter said.

Police responded  to Berger Hall about 1 a.m. Friday found empty nitrous oxide canisters in the room, the Los Angeles Times reported.
